Adjunct Prof. Peter Heathcote is a Brisbane native and graduate of the University of Queensland. He is a founding member of Brisbane Urology Clinic and Past President of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand. He serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre Queensland (APCRC-Q) within the School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health at Queensland University of Technology.

Special interests

Dr Heathcote has a special interest in medico-legal urology including injury and impairment assessment as well as medical negligence.

He is a member of the Medical Assessment Tribunal for Queensland Worker’s Compensation Regulatory Services and serves as an expert advisor in Urology to AVANT medical indemnity.

 

TRAINING

Education and medical training

Dr Heathcote was born and raised in Brisbane and completed his basic medical degree at the University of Queensland. After an intern year in Cairns Hospital, he then worked in Longreach for two years before starting general surgical then urology training in Townsville, then Brisbane.

After completing urology speciality training, he spent further time in Cardiff, United Kingdom and in Toronto, Canada.

With colleagues at Brisbane Urology Clinic, he was involved establishing the first robotic prostatectomy program in Queensland after travelling to the United States for training.

Other interests

Dr Heathcote enjoys teaching, research, consulting, and participating in the development of guidelines for the medical profession.

In his spare time he enjoys boating.
