Dr Navaratnam is a very experienced robotic surgeon.
He performs a high volume of robotic surgery for prostate cancer and has demonstrated excellent cancer and functional outcomes. Dr Navaratnam also specialises in organ sparing surgery for kidney cancer, performing robotic partial nephrectomy.
Dr Navaratnam is the most experienced robotic cystectomy surgeon in Queensland for bladder cancer and offers ileal conduit and neobladder urinary diversion.
In addition to cancer surgery, Dr Navaratnam also treats men with prostate enlargement. He offers a number of cutting edge surgical options for this including HoLEP and Rezum. Dr Navaratnam introduced HoLEP to Brisbane in 2020 and performs the most of these surgeries in Queensland.

Training and medical education
After growing up in Brisbane, Dr Navaratnam moved to Sydney to complete medical school where he graduated with Honours from the University of New South Wales. He then returned to Brisbane and completed his formal urological training.
Dr Navaratnam has extensive experience in robotic and laparoscopic surgery and endourology. He has obtained extra experience in addition to basic urological surgery, including a Laparoscopic and Robotic Fellowship at Princess Alexandra Hospital and Queensland Robotic Surgery (QRS) unit at Greenslopes Private Hospital, and an Endourology/Minimally Invasive Fellowship at Mayo Clinic, Arizona.
Dr Navaratnam is the only Urologist in Queensland and one of few in Australia to have worked at Mayo Clinic. He is the only Urologist in Queensland with training certified by the Endourological Society. He was mentored by world leading surgeons, Dr Erik Castle, Dr Mitchell Humphreys, and Dr Paul Andrews.
He has published in the urologic literature and has presented his research at the American Urological Association annual meeting, World Congress of Endourology, and North American Robotic Urology Symposium.
Dr Navaratnam is also involved in the education of other surgeons and is a robotic proctor surgeon, supervisor of training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and has presented at a number of conferences as an expert in the field. He is also the current director of Urology at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital.
Other interests
Dr Navaratnam is a consultant Urologist and robotic surgeon at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He holds a senior lecturer position with the University of Queensland Faculty of Medicine and mentors future urologists.
Dr Navaratnam is passionate about the health of Queenslanders and ensuring the best outcomes for his patients. He wants to ensure patients in regional Australia have access to state of the art urological care. He has previously spent four years of medical and surgical training in regional towns including Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Hervey Bay, Rockhampton and Mackay.
Outside of work, Dr Navaratnam enjoys spending time with his family and friends and is happy to talk to anyone about any sport.
